After visiting my local butcher recently I learned that if I came back at 8 pm they discount their ground beef down to $.99 lb. Wow!! I was so excited. There are times that I need 10 to 15 lbs of ground beef, and this would be a great savings. So, as I was leaving the store I began to think of all of the great things I could make with ground beef.
I challenged myself to come up with 10 different things that I could make with ground beef on a budget. Then I thought what better thing to do than share the ideas with you. This time around it is simply the list with no recipes, but I will be adding recipes to coincide with my list over the next few weeks. Be sure to check back and get the recipes and pictures.
- Mac and Cheese Lasagna – Easy and kid-friendly.
- Ground Beef Stroganoff – Easy and healthy.
- French Onion Salisbury Steak – A great way to turn ground beef into an elegant meal.
- Beef and Black Bean Chili – A customer favorite, we had this last week during our ice storm.
- Spaghetti and Meatballs – The recipe is already available here.
- Bacon and Blue Cheese Burgers – My pregnancy addiction.
- Steakhouse Shepherds Pie – A bit time consuming, but oh so good.
- Taco Soup – Great on Super Bowl Sunday, that is what we ate.
- Tacos – I make a big batch of taco meat and beans, and then we have tacos, nachos, burritos, chimichangas, tostados, etc…
- Mini Italian Meatloaves – I love these and so does my son.
I’m sure if I thought long and hard I could come up with some more ideas for ground beef, but I thought I’d better leave some for you guys. What are your ideas for ground beef?
I look forwrd to the recipies! I tried the cilantro stuff and it was a bit hit!
Great list of recipe ideas. I just stockpiled ground chuck, so I will have to use some of these ideas!
Awesome list! I LOVE taco soup. Yum! I’m visiting from the 31dbbb forum.
That is incredibly cheap for beef. I’m not sure what else you could do with ground beef, some kind of hamburger I guess.
This is awesome š
I am always at a loss for what to do š
our rotation is tacos, sloppy joes and meatloaf (we prefer to eat burgers out or that would be on our list too š )
It’s nice to have new ideas.
what a delish list! love it. glad you are joining me in the 31dbbb. hope you will get lots out of it! š

How about the simple grilled hamburger or easy sloppy joes? Lasagne or stuffed manacotti! We sometimes create a mixture of ground beef. cheese, garlic, sour cream, tish of worchestershire to put on top of baked potatoes along with broccoli. Looking forward to your recipes!
mmm. taco soup? Now I’m hungry.
This list was great . . . and really tasty. lol š Stopping by from 31dbbb challenge!
That price is GREAT–I’d buy a bunch in bulk and freeze it. One of my family’s faves is sour cream enchiladas (made with beef filling).
Yumm! I might need to try that.
The bacon and blue cheese burgers sound so good! I don’t eat pork or beef, but I can use turkey bacon and turkey burgers (or facon and veggie burgers…yum!). I love a turkey burger with goat cheese! Some other things that we love to eat (with ground turkey) is wedding soup, stuffed peppers, and sloppy joes.
What is in the wedding soup?
It is great that there are alternatives to ground beef. I used to eat more ground turkey and chicken than I do now, however, when I was pregnant with my daughter my body rebelled against any kind of poultry, and I still can’t stomach it.
Oh, I know the feeling š I can’t even mention the “g” word that’s made out of avocados without feeling sick. Poultry is the only meat I eat and some day I hope to be vegetarian so, no more poultry.
I don’t cook…but my mom does and she makes the wedding soup. But just from tasting it…it’s basically like chicken soup with mini meatballs in it. Some people put small pasta in it, but she doesn’t. There’s greens in it (kale I think). If I remember to ask her what’s it in I’ll send you the “recipe” (she doesn’t use recipes just throws in whatever whenever and it’s fantastic…she’s a food wizard!).
Great List! Have you ever tried cabbage rolls? They’re really simple and yummy. You could do enchiladas, meatballs, stuffed bell peppers, and lasagna. I could go on and on.
